Discharge of plastic into the aquatic environment

A project financed by the Danish Agency for Science and Innovation.

The purpose of the project is to increase the level of knowledge about what type and quantities of plastics is emitted from elected watercourses to the ocean and to asses if the collected plastic can be recycled. The project will be used as basis for subsequently search for funds to start a larger project, where the amount of plastic from watercourses to the ocean around Denmark is mapped.

The goal is to map the amounts of plastics emitted to the ocean from chosen watercourses in the fall 2018, through collection of plastic from the watercourses. The collected plastic shall be analysed to determine the types of plastics emitted. In addition, pyrolysis testing of the collected plastic must be performed to assess whether it would be profitable to recycle the plastic to produce specific diesel fuels.
