🌊 Turning data into action on plastic pollution in Aarhus

We were pleased to participate in the Circular Ocean-bound Plastic (COP) stakeholder workshop in Aarhus, bringing together partners and local stakeholders to develop a roadmap for reducing plastic pollution in the region.

During the workshop, Geraldo Mihut from Plast Center Danmark presented insights from macro-litter collected in the Aarhus River using the SeaProtectorOne system—highlighting how continuous monitoring can reveal patterns in plastic pollution and support targeted solutions.

🔍 Key takeaway:

More than 150 kg of litter (over 22,000 items) has been collected, providing a strong data foundation for understanding sources and improving prevention strategies.

This highlights how data-driven insights are essential for designing effective prevention strategies and improving waste management.

The workshop emphasized how collaboration across municipalities, organizations, and industry is crucial to translating knowledge into concrete actions—supporting both local initiatives and broader regional impact.

A big thank you to Clean, AarhusKommune, Circular Ocean-bound Plastic, and all partners and stakeholders for the engaging discussions and strong collaboration—we look forward to the next steps.

The COP project is co-financed by the European Union through the Interreg South Baltic Programme 2021-2027.
