As we wrap up the year at Plast Center Danmark, the work doesn\u2019t slow down \u2014 even if the lab gets a little more festive \ud83c\udf85\u2728<\/p>\n
Following our long-term monitoring and collection of plastic from the Aarhus River using the SeaProtectorOne device, we\u2019ve now taken the next step: mechanical testing of the recovered material.<\/p>\n
Plast Center Danmark prepared 10 kg of polypropylene gathered from the river \u2014 cutting it into small pieces, washing it thoroughly, and getting it ready for grinding. A partner company then moulded and extruded the material into standardised \u201cdogbone\u201d specimens (not for chewing \ud83d\udc36\ud83d\ude09 but perfect for mechanical testing \ud83e\uddea).<\/p>\n

How much does a journey through the river environment affect the mechanical strength and reuse potential of polypropylene?
\nThese tests will help evaluate whether plastic collected directly from waterways can be reintegrated into circular material streams.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s exciting to see river plastic move from data collection \u2192 material preparation \u2192 real mechanical performance testing. More insights coming soon as the results unfold!<\/p>\n
