A project financed by the Danish Agency for Science and Innovation.<\/p>\n
The goal of the project is to develop new methods for modelling and testing that can be used for operation and lifetime assessment of advanced materials for demanding and challenging applications such as offshore or renewable energy technologies.<\/p>\n
It is often difficult to introduce plastics in sophisticated and demanding applications, as it is necessary to use a test set-up requiring long-term operation of up to several years. Companies are increasingly starting to use statistical modelling of e.g. impact testing, but in order to get valid results from a simulation, it is necessary to have a test set-up for high strain rates unobtainable with conventional test equipment. These data can then be used in the company\u2019s simulations and form the basis for using plastics materials in more complex situations.<\/p>\n
In other situations, the challenge is a combination of environmental effects and mechanical stress. One example of this is in the materials used for solar panels, but materials and surfaces for wind and wave power will also be exposed to very demanding environments.<\/p>\n
