Materials selection for future housing

A project financed by the Region of Southern Denmark, the European Union and the Danish State.

The project encompassed the initial phases of a larger and lengthier project under the name “Future Housing”. This project was a realization of a concept for a future oriented housing type, primarily for low-rise single family housing, using novel, mostly plastic based materials as well as other high-tech products, combined with new construction and building principles.

The project included identification of necessary and relevant performance requirements for future family housing, so the buildings lived up to the high standards for energy efficiency, comfort, indoor climate, safety and design etc. The buildings and the materials used also had to live up to international standards for sustainability.

Finally, the project aimed at contributing to a new and forward-looking debate on plastics and environmental technology in the building trade, which is generally characterized by being very tradition-bound.

A report describing the project has been prepared.
