Circular Economy – Increased recycling of plastic and plastic packaging

It is estimated that approx. 440,500 tonnes of plastic waste is produced in Denmark each year. Of these approx. 310,000 tonnes is incinerated, while approx. 131,500 tonnes is shipped abroad for reprocessing and resale. Only about 3% of household waste and 40% of industrial waste are sorted and recycled.

The purpose of this project is to contribute to the fact that Denmark is increasing the recycling rate on plastic.

In this project under circular economy, DMN has participated in the case study “Sea Research Survaey”, where plastic is collected along Danish coasts, sorted and cleaned so they can be part of a recycling process. The material from the process has been used in the demonstration project “Bænken og Spanden”, of which a copy is part of the exhibition “REUSE, RECYCLE AND RETHINK PLASTIC” in Confederation of Danish Industry, which was opened November 19th 2018.
